where to start?

The spinning discs that hold the magnets, and magnet issues

where to start?

Postby jkproperties on Tue Sep 07, 2010 6:55 pm

Hi All
Well done with this site.

Could someone please point me in the right direction...
I would like to build your design but I am unsure about:
Magnets? how do you decide what to use?
Coils? How do you decide?
How do I find out our wind speed?
How many rpm's will this wind speed achieve?
How much volts, amps, watts will this generate?

Thank you in advance...

Hi there. It can be daunting! It is a big subject, and there are many aspects, as you have seen. Wind speed is best measured at the actual site, but approximations can be got from nearby airports, flying clubs (e.g. paragliders) or weather stations.

As for the other questions - the main thing is matching the torque of the turbine to the resistive torque of the generator. Unfortunately there is no quick answer I can give to this. Hopefully I will run another course in the not too distant future which will address some of this.
