Well I have finally got around to using the template I had laser cut to make a hub for the 1.5m blades.

Hub of 1.5m blades

The two hub disks are 12mm marine ply, both sides coated with glass woven mat and epoxy. There is a cut-out in the outer disk to allow access to the mounting nuts.

Holding this in my hands has made me realise a few things which need to change to support these blades in a Cape Town storm:
The 12mm shaft is too small - I have bought 20mm bar to use instead, with matching bearings
The 42mm pipe I use as a pole is too weak. I have bought some 50mm pipe to replace the 38mm pipe I used before for the mounting bracket
now this means i need to get some rotor disks cut with a larger centre hole for the larger bearings.

Watch this space!

PS: If a few people want blades of this size and order together, the manufacturer has said they are willing to make a special price.

I never trusted the idea of a 12mm shaft from the beginning and therefor purchased pillow blocks that will take a 25mm shaft. Wouldn`t mind to get my hands on a set of those 1.5m blades...

NS: Can you recommend anyone up here in Gauteng that does laser cutting?

I have now had a bracket made with a 20mm shaft. It also has a larger round tube for the pole - 50mm. Don't know of a laser cutter up North, sorry.
Those blades were available for R8000 initially, but I think you may be able to get them a lot cheaper that. They perform really well... make Nico an offer and see what he says!

Thanx Windgat

Just one, obvious stupid, question: who is Nico and how do I get in touch with him?

These are great blades at a good price - very powerful, and well made. I can recommend them!
