3-Phase wiring

Postby Robert_Patterson on Tue Jan 08, 2008 10:00 pm

Can anyone provide wiring diagram for connecting the (6) leads from the 3-phase.
Are there blocking diodes attached at this point?

Hi Robert. I have found Star wiring the best - basically you connect one side of each of the coils together, and the other ends go to the AC connections of bridge rectifiers. This means you use one and a half rectifiers for 3 phases. It looks like a three pointed star if you draw it, hence the name.

Its also possible - but less convenient - to use individual diodes. The rectifiers come in sturdy packages with a big surface for heat dissapation.

To test, connect one coil at a time, and make sure the DC voltage (after the rectifier) increases each time you add a coil.
