Hi, I have a serious challenge. Saw this mean looking monster machine at a scrap metal yard. Standing there looking at me. I wanted it as I am a novice in the alternative energy playing field. Have some batteries, built a half-working bicycle trainer. This was built by the local university and I realised on closer inspection why it had to endure this misfortune. Their was 'n serious burn mark on the coils...err the copper wire thingies, in one section. Is it worth rescuing this baby and will it be easy to repair as the coils are covered in a resin or something? Maybe for a biggish wind turbine. Now somebody please give me short answer, Would you have bought it for the price of scrap metal, R5,40 per kg?

That is a mean looking monster! How heavy is it? I would say the weight would mean a very strong structure is needed to support it, and its not for the first timer! Repairing the coils would not be easier - I guess it would mean rebuilding the stator completely.
