Local sources for anemometer?

Postby aragon on Fri Feb 05, 2010 12:29 am

Hi,

I've spent the past day or two dutifully studying the science behind building a wind turbine and I'm really keen to try get one up and running. Before I start I want to measure the wind speeds at the installation site over time. Does anyone know of a local source for affordable anemometers, or even anemometer kits? I don't want to spend too much money, but don't want to spend weeks just building one from scratch either. :)

Thanks,
Aragon

An old small DC motor, with three cups on the top. Calibrate wind speed vs voltage by driving in your car (on a windless day). Still it on a pole,
attach wires and a voltmeter, and there you go!

Logging it over time is not so simple.... let me know if you come up with a cunning plan for that!
