Getting discount on magnets

The spinning discs that hold the magnets, and magnet issues

Re: Wedge shaped magnets

Hi to all

While I was surfing various suppliers of magnets i came across APPLIED MAGNETS.COM who offers 3 sizes in wedge shape magnets. Dimensions of the largest are as follows:

Width at top: 67mm
Width at bottom: 40mm
Length: 76mm
Thickness: 12.5mm
Strength: N42

Price per magnet:$13.99 (if the order is for 32 or more)

$13.99 x R7.60 = R106.32 but then there is still import tax to keep in mind. (Not that I would know much that is).

What are your thoughts on this?

Perhaps tax... but what got me was the shipping costs. These are classified as special goods (imagine what they could do to a compass!), and so are not cheap to ship. But I also found that site, and thought the prices were great!

I have preferred to deal with a local importer, and pay more but reduce my risk/hassle.

Would this local importer of yours be able to give us a quote for these specific magnets?

Would rotor discs cut from 5mm mild steel with 16 of these size magnets keep their structural integrity if the disc diameter was 350mm or more?

See
http://windpower.org.za/products/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=8
for the sizes I tend to use. The prices can fluctuate a bit, hopefully they are a bit lower than quoted there. There is also a shipping fee, so once someone knows what they want, I get a final quote including shipping.

I am definately interested in the wedge shape magnets in the picture above and request a final quote for 32 in total.
How long will it take your importer to respond?

The wedge shaped magnets are not something I have looked into. The rectangular ones are more common, and hence cheaper. I could ask the importer at make a special arrangement if it is a standard size, but this would either mean at least a six week delay for shipping, or costly air freight. If its not a standard size, it could mean a minimum order quantity of a few hundred.

Hi.

I had a meeting yesterday with a guy who builds capacitors and UPSs and regularly imports components from the U.S.
He is willing to import the wedge magnets (in the picture above) and will let me know what the import and shipping is going to cost me.

Anyone interested in these magnets can email me at gawie@wifidirect.co.za.

Hi there. For wind power we usually use rectangular magnets. Do you need them to be disks?

Hi Mielies, thanks for your interest. Hopefully I will be running another course later this year, and will order a lot of magnets for that, and so get a very good price. Please make sure you are on the mailing list (sign up on windpower home page) and you will be notified when that happens.

That's a great idea. Also you need to make sure all the magnets are of the same dimension or limited number of dimensions.
