I think getting your wind and PEM Cells and PV cells active will be a necessity as South Africa

Yes true... In a way the mini energy crisis being experienced in South Africa (due to the self confessed incompetence of Eskom) is a good thing... it is increasing awareness, and making people ask questions about alternatives.

From this side of the world I hear that SA has quite a few nukes on the cards to be built over the next 20 years. Weather it gets done or not we will see. I would hate to think that indigenous Africans with their vast knowledge of the cosmos and atomic theory would be able to keep anything running without using the knowledge and insight of Europeans.

The Kariba dam and other projects should be fired up again! Cahora bassa dam as well!

Indeed a lot of nukes on the cards. Thankfully the Pebble Bed stuff seems to be starting to dwindle, although it is still a big drain on the tax payer. The nuclear lobby as you can imagine is trying to use the blackouts here as reasons for downgrading environmental and safety concerns.
