Re: My Huge Heavy Mast is Up

The wind turbine is up !!! There was almost no wind. Dries and I put chairs in the shade of the solar geyser and simply gazed upwards --- hoping. Suddenly there was a slight breeze and .................. ................. the ...

Re: Dump load / LVD circuit

Google tries, but can not ....
I mean the back of the pcb, where connections components.
Indeed, this circuit disconnects the battery of the wind turbine? , but does so without the risk of accelerating the wind turbine?

Re: Dump load / LVD circuit

... I am Spanish and translates this conversation google, so sorry. Have long sought a way to make a charge controller for my self-constructed wind turbine, and I 12VDC batteries charged, but the problem I have is I do not know the full electronica, but I dare to make the circuit, just ask ...

Green power anything

Hi, I'm new to this forum (can't find a decent one in the US) and hope to exchange ideas on green power of all kinds. I've built six wind generators ( 1KW & smaller), made solar panels from cells, solar heaters- water and air and other green gadgets. I've noticed questions on pvc blades ...

Re: Wind Power Logic ?

Hi Dave. Some problems in there. Firstly, 83 amps is a lot - you would need very thick wire, or would lose a lot of power to heating of the wire. Secondly, you are confusing watts and watt hours, when you convert amp hours to watts. Any measure over time is watt hours or amp hours. Watts and amps by...

Wind Power Logic ?

... basic things around the house. Now not being an expert electrical person, can anyone tell me if I have the right logic here .... ? Am looking at wind powered generators but not too sure about the maths. A wind turbine ( yes, I am on a very 'breezy' hill ) generates ( it's specs say ) 1 kW. ( ...

Re: Wind Power

Im slowly thinking i should do that. However, the cost could build up to the same amount as one i could buy and then it still wont be as weather proof as the real thing. Ive tracked down a new motor that fits my requirments perfectly, however, it costs a fortune. I see there was a member Leon who bo...

Re: Wind Power

Hi Garrick, sorry I don't. What you want is a low voltage low rpm motor - i.e. a motor that when turned slowly (say 300rpm) produces the voltage you want (say 12V or 24V). This is unusual as most electric motors are high rpm.

Re: Wind Power

Hi All,

Does anyone know where i can get a DC motor to use as a generator for my wind turbine? Im based in the JHB area.

Re: Local sources for anemometer?

An old small DC motor, with three cups on the top. Calibrate wind speed vs voltage by driving in your car (on a windless day). Still it on a pole,
attach wires and a voltmeter, and there you go!

Logging it over time is not so simple.... let me know if you come up with a cunning plan for that!

Turns out it worked really well. It was done as an undergrad thesis at UCT. For those interested check out http://www.capehub.co.za/2010/01/cheap-wind-power-using-computer-scrap/

Local sources for anemometer?

Looks like you've got the hub attachment sorted.

Nice motor! How did you get it/how much did it set you back?

Re: Darling Wind Power

No stage 2 yet. I think there are admin/regulatory/finance problems. Eskom of course is obstructing all REFIT attempts.

sometimes they are not turning because of testing. For e.g. when I was they were measuring noise levels, so wanted only one turbine turning.

Re: Darling Wind Power

Hi, I saw this project when stage one had just been completed, but at the time there seemed to be a number of problems with it, and the turbines were not turning. From the sounds of things that is all better now, but can you tell me if stage two (I think that was another 6 turbines, bringing it to 1...

Re: Noob to homemade but work on GE 1.5 MW Wind Turbines

... here is my blades... What do you think...... Once i get the blade brackets made and then test out my turbine I will then decide with the average wind around here and the RPM's i get under load what I will do for a system, but because my turbine puts off 3 phase AC then it's not a big deal because ...

Interesting to have a stat-or that rot-ates and a rot-or that is stat-ionary! Am keen to understand/help, but without pics or diagrams its hard!
