Re: Why wind power is better than solar panels

The advantage of generating power is that it can be generated in one place, and used in another, unlike the windpomp.

Re: magnet shape

Usually arc or wedge are widely used in wind turbine. Block magnets can work out well too as all these magnets need to be assemble together to products the magnetic field.

Re: where to get magnets in gauteng!

Gentleman, may I comment on a general observation please: I notice that most guys wanting to work with wind turbines are clamoring for rare earth / neodymium magnets, mainly because they not only shine nicely, they are extremely strong (lets face it). Are all aware that they ...

Re: Low Cost! 500w to 1500W Wind Turbines in PAKISTAN

In view of the electricity shortage and load shedding / frequent power outages in PAKISTAN a group of investors have decided to
setup Low Cost 500W to 1500W Wind Turbines (PMG) manufacturing facility for the homeowners throughout PAKISTAN (starting from Karachi -Sindh).

Re: Darling Wind Power

That is high. I wonder how well it would work in reverse? My guess it would offer a lot of resistance, and there may be a lot of static friction - i.e. it would need a lot of torque to start it spinning. A worm gear will not work in reverse at all!

Re: Micro wind turbines for rural homes in Africa

What voltage do you intend to get from the generator? How far apart will the magnets be? You are using very small magnets and very few coil winds, which means you will need to get a high RPM to get a reasonable voltage.Normally that means shorter blades, otherwise the tip speed gets too high. I thin...

Re: Why wind power is better than solar panels

Hi Jay, looks great! You can't use capacitors alone to increase voltage. You can make a circuit using a coil, a FET, and capacitor, which is called a DC boost converter. Or you can try increase the rpm to get more voltage. Once you get 13.5 voltage you are good to charge a 12V battery.
