Re: Dummy load?

Sounds like what you need is a watt/hour meter, or an Amp/hour meter. Or take frequent amp readings and integrate. Remember that for non constant current a digital meter can get confused and report an incorrect reading - I think that's how a few over-unity myths have started.

Re: Using a Car alternator.

Hi DIYman. First step is to check what rpm is needed to get the voltage you want. Say you want to run a 12V system, then it means you need 14V from the alternator. So spin it until it gets 14V, and measure the rpm. How to do this depends on your instruments and ingenuity!

Re: Darling Wind Power

That is high. I wonder how well it would work in reverse? My guess it would offer a lot of resistance, and there may be a lot of static friction - i.e. it would need a lot of torque to start it spinning. A worm gear will not work in reverse at all!

Re: Micro wind turbines for rural homes in Africa

What voltage do you intend to get from the generator? How far apart will the magnets be? You are using very small magnets and very few coil winds, which means you will need to get a high RPM to get a reasonable voltage.Normally that means shorter blades, ...

Re: Batteries

Its worth checking the voltage - you never know! It depends a lot on how charged the battery was st the start of its 'long sleep'. You may find one (or more) cells is delivering 0V - that would means recovery is unlikely. I haven't tried a desulphator myself. ...

Re: Batteries

Need some advise please

... is this. Has anyone use capacitors in this way and got results, if so please could you post the schematic of the size of capacitors used and how they were wired. Also would like to know if I should turn the turbine in a down wind type, with out the furling tail.

Hi Innovo. I wrote the PHP code for that page, and it is based on some fairly complex aerodynamic formulas... I still have quite figured out how to apply the Reynold's number... Sure I could try and do something for water, but I guess the base formulas are completely different, due to the fact ...

Yes - large surface area, therefore high torque slow speed. Also note how the blades are broader nearer the tip, the opposite to the usual aerodynamic design.

Re: laws and restrictions

... radio mast is 9m, so perhaps best to stick to that, including the blade height. That makes for quite a tall pole - I would be interested to see how you intend to erect it, and what stays you plan on using. The force in a high wind can be very surprising - you need to make it strong!

How to use a rotor set

The rotor set is 2 large disks and 2 small disks. The holes are laser cut, and since this is not 100% accurate and can leave a small burr, they need to be drilled out to the correct size. The small disks are the same. ⋅ The 4 holes are designed to be used with 12mm bolts, and so should be ...
